What are Teeth-Whitening?
Do you feel conscious in laughing out loud due to stained or discolored teeth. Well! Need not to worry. Shri Aadinath Dental Clinic is there to give you the confidence of smiling and laughing by whitening your teeth with our advanced teeth whitening technology.
Teeth whitening is among the most popular cosmetic dental procedures because it can greatly improve how your teeth look. Whitening is a very effective way of lightening the natural color of your teeth and removing stains and discoloration without removing any tooth surface.
Over time, your teeth can go from white to not-so-bright for a number of reasons.
Poor oral hygiene:
Not taking good care of your teeth can cause them to get yellow or stained.
Food and Drink:
Dark-colored liquids such as coffee, cola, tea and red wine are some major staining culprits. They all have strong color pigments that attach to the outer white part of your tooth (enamel). Food such as blackcurrant can also stain the surface of your teeth.
Tobacco Use:
Two chemicals found in tobacco create stubborn stains: Tar and nicotine. Tar is naturally dark. Nicotine is colorless until it's mixed with oxygen. Then, it turns into a yellowish, surface-staining substance.
Aging:
Below the hard, white outer shell of your teeth (enamel) is a softer area called dentin. Over time, the outer enamel layer gets thinner with brushing and dentin becomes darker and yellowish. Hence, our teeth become discolored as we get older.
Teeth whitening is a simple process. Whitening products provided by us contain one of two tooth bleach (hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide).
These bleaches break stains into smaller pieces, which makes the color less concentrated and your teeth brighter.
What we do?
Whitening your teeth can be done in our dental office or at your home also.
In-Office Bleaching:
It is also called chairside bleaching and usually requires only one visit to our office. Firstly, we photograph your teeth and examine them well. We ask you questions to find out what caused the staining.
Next, we will clean your teeth. In order to remove the film of bacteria, food and other substances that contributed to the staining.
Once this is done, we apply a protective gel or a rubber shield to protect your gums. Bleach is then applied to the teeth. This procedure usually takes about one hour.
At-Home Bleaching:
For whitening at home, we make custom trays for you to hold the whitening gel that fit your teeth precisely. Also, we will give you instructions on how to place the bleaching solution in the tray and for what length of time. This may be a preferred option if you feel more comfortable whitening in your own home at a slower pace. Home whitening gel usually needs to be applied daily for two to three weeks.
ASK QUESTION
Once your treatment has started, you will need to apply the whitening product over two to four weeks, for 30 minutes to one hour at a time. However, there are now some new products which can be applied for up to eight hours at a time. This means you can get a satisfactory result in as little as one week.
Now, we provide laser whitening or power whitening during which a rubber dam is put over your teeth to protect the gums, and a bleaching product is painted onto your teeth. Then a light or laser is used on the teeth to activate the chemical. This light speeds up the reaction of the whitening product and the color change can be achieved more quickly. Laser whitening is said to make teeth up to five or six shades lighter.
How much does tooth whitening cost?
Charges will vary from practice to practice. Laser or power whitening will be more expensive than professional bleaching.
The effects of whitening are thought to last up to three years. However, we give you some tips to prevent tooth discoloration and to maintain your whiter smile after whitening:
Avoid stain-causing foods and beverages: Coffee, tea, wine, hard drinks, candies, berries and tomato sauce should be avoided. Use a straw: When drinking beverages, use a straw to keep stain-causing dyes away from your teeth. Quit smoking: Eliminating tobacco smoking can help keep your teeth bright.
Some patients find that their teeth become sensitive to cold food items during or after the treatment. Others may have discomfort in the gums. These symptoms are usually temporary and should disappear within a few days.
