Kids dentistry or Pediatric dentistry is the branch of dentistry that is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teen years. It is aimed to provide medical care for a child's teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the various stages of childhood.
Why is Kids Dentistry needed?
Children begin to get their baby teeth during the first 6 months of life. By age of 6 or 7 years, they start to lose them, and they are eventually replaced by secondary, permanent teeth. Without proper dental care, children face possible oral decay and disease that can cause a lifetime of pain and complications. Today, early childhood dental infectious diseases are 7 times more common in children than they have fever.
Hence, it is extremely important that oral health of children is properly taken care of from the very early days. And Shri Aadinath Dental Clinic is there to serve you with the best pediatric dentistry. We recommend an initial visit before the child's first birthday to make sure that their teeth and gums are cared for and cleaned properly.
Teething - between 3 and 9 months, your infant's baby teeth will begin to erupt. This may irritate your child by causing restlessness or loss of appetite.
Pacifiers - Pacifiers are the artificial nipples made up of plastic we generally give our infants to suck in.
Though sucking is a normal part of child development during their first years of life. However, prolonged sucking using pacifiers may harm infants teeth by causing problems with bite and jaw alignment. Hence, it is advisable to avoid their use for too long.
Baby bottle tooth decay - Tooth decay in infants and toddlers is often called Baby Bottle Tooth Decay. It mostly occurs in the upper front teeth, but other teeth may also be affected. It is caused due to frequent, prolonged exposure of the baby's teeth to drinks that contain sugar. Bacteria from this sugar forms acid which damages the tooth enamel and eventually leads to cavity.

ASK QUESTION
When it comes to the health of your child's primary teeth, there is no better time than now to start practicing excellent oral hygiene. Pediatric dental care ensures your child's primary teeth stay healthy and free of decay and other dental diseases.
Here are some ways to do so:
Place only milk in the bottle and avoid filling it with sugary liquids, juice or soft drinks. Try to ensure that infants should finish their bedtime bottles before going to bed. If your child uses a pacifier, provide one that is clean-don't dip it in sugar or honey. Encourage your child to drink from a cup by his or her first birthday.
Here are a few tips on how to use them safely:
Rinse the pacifier regularly in clean water. Don't attach a pacifier to your baby's clothes with string or ribbon.
Don't dip pacifiers in sweet liquids like honey or syrup before giving them to your baby, as this can cause cavities.
Gum massage is the most natural way to soothe a teething baby. Use bare, clean hands or wrap a finger in a damp gauze and gently massage his or her gums. The pressure from your finger on his gums can help reduce any pain.
Before teeth have erupted, clean your baby's gums and the teeth by rubbing a clean, damp washcloth along the baby's upper and lower gums.
When your baby has teeth, start brushing them at least two to three times a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and water. It is important to purchase a toothbrush designed specifically for babies, which will have a much smaller head, for their tiny mouths.
